Mikel Arteta claims that the "finishers" in his squad might prove increasingly crucial than starters this season—a philosophy he admits adopting from the sport of rugby.

The Brazilian winger and The Belgian forward each scored—and set up one another—following their introduction as second-half substitutes to secure a two-goal win for the London club against the Spanish side in the first UEFA elite competition match.

Recent Struggles and Managerial Trust

The 24-year-old has faced a tough spell lately, losing form and being relegated to the bench, with recent acquisition the English winger chosen on the left wing.

Trossard, meanwhile, has been limited three substitute appearances so far after featuring 56 times during the previous term.

Arteta emphasized that being a substitute does not reduce a player's importance, citing similarities with rugby's concept of impact players.

"They are just as important, if not more so," he stated. "The finishers will prove decisive in the coming months sometimes than the starters."

Team Rotation and Injury Absences

Arsenal are currently without key players such as Martin Odegaard, the England international, and the German playmaker due to injuries, while William Saliba was deemed ready enough for a place on bench.

This has forced the manager to rely on recent additions sooner than expected, with five of them named in the lineup against Spanish outfit.

He admitted that omitting individuals is emotionally challenging, but applauded the impact of both Martinelli and Trossard after initially benching them.

"Extremely satisfied because it is hard on a personal level to make exclusions," he expressed. "Each occasion you announce the starting eleven, you let down a number of players."

Team Spirit and Confidence Boost

Martinelli, who was once a key figure under the manager, faced a loss of sharpness that sparked fan debate about his place in the team.

He was conscious about the criticism and it affected his confidence, despite scoring double figures across all competitions—featuring a memorable strike in the Champions League quarter-final encounter against Real Madrid.

The coach has always trusted Martinelli in big games and was delighted to see the attacker make the difference in this victory.

"He fully deserves it," said Arteta. "I adore Gabi. The way he applies himself, his commitment, optimism—everything he offers for the squad."

Arsenal players ran to congratulate Martinelli after his goal, with the defender gesturing toward the player's name in front of the traveling supporters.

"That's the spirit," added. "It's reasons like this I truly enjoy working with them every day. How they support one another is genuine."
