The Gunners' Boss Concedes Future Tenure Is Tied to Winning Silverware.
On the eve of his six-year milestone at the helm, Mikel Arteta has made it clear that his continued role with the club is inextricably linked to achieving success.
The Journey So Far: The Arteta Era
Arteta took over on December 20th, 2019 and managed to steer the team to an cup win not long after. However, that initial silverware is still his only significant piece of silverware since succeeding Unai Emery.
“Absolutely,” Arteta responded upon being asked about his future past 2027. “But it’s about today. And many things have to happen in the near future as well to earn the right.”
He will mark the six-year milestone with a fixture against Everton, the identical team Arsenal met immediately following his hiring was confirmed.
Present Challenges
Given that trailing Manchester City playing against West Ham earlier in the day, Arsenal could be displaced top spot in the Premier League prior to their fixture. This potential shift despite Arteta managing a squad that has suffered more than a century of fitness issues since the start of last season.
Arteta currently has 18 months to run on the contract he inked in 2024, but is acutely aware that he must deliver promptly.

He went on to explain, emphasizing the constant necessity to validate his position. “I think a manager needs to warrant the right to be here tomorrow. And that’s how how you react, how you communicate, how you enter the dressing room, the instructions you give.”
He added, commending the consistent faith from the hierarchy, while singling out the squad's dedication as most crucial. “At the end, the key individuals are those players... For six years, I’ve seen just players with a standard of focus, hunger for knowledge and give their all to the team.”
Squad Setbacks
Arsenal faces the upcoming game coping with a fresh setback. Defender Ben White has been declared unavailable with a strain that is anticipated to sideline him for a few weeks.
Evolved Priorities
Regardless of the availability issues and the intense pressure, Arteta believes the club's “focus and dialogue” are completely changed from when he began his reign.
Arteta highlighted the team's performances as proof they are close. “You look at the performances, all the historical marks we surpassed... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the level we are at.”
He finished by saying, “This is a standard that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And we want to achieve even higher goals. And if we do that, I think we are on the correct trajectory to winning.”
