The Reds boss Arne Slot has hit out at commentators who “show bias toward different teams” for their remarks over the team’s transfer window spending as he gets ready to award a maiden outing to Swedish striker Isak.

A transfer deadline acquisition of Sweden striker Isak from Newcastle United for a record-breaking sum of £125 million took the Reds’ total outlay to £450 million on eight players.

Isak is set to get his first appearance for Slot’s side in their European opener against Atletico Madrid at their stadium on this week.

In his ahead of the game press conference, the manager emphasized that Liverpool’s unprecedented investment was balanced by over £250 million pounds recouped in transfers out, having used just £10m the last off-season.

“There is so much emphasis on our new acquisitions, especially from commentators that are biased toward a few other sides in the country that fail to stop speaking about £450 million pounds,” Slot stated.

“I repeat, £450 million pounds, £450 million! But they ignore about around £300m that we have transferred out squad members for. So, indeed, if we need to strengthen the side we must to invest that much funds.”

Slot felt his team “completed smart transfers”, given all eight of their signings are younger than twenty-five or below, and the organization “ought to get praise” for the plan it has taken.

“From my perspective it is just a praise that people tell everyone we have spent so much because that tells you the individuals we brought in are viewed as very good footballers,” explained the coach.

“Some different clubs choose to bring in players in their late twenties because they are match-fit, but we think we have added players who are in their early twenties [and] who are able.

“I think all the cash we have spent we made ourselves by transferring out, and by claiming the league after we did not buy anyone at all.”

The striker did not appear in Liverpool’s one-nil win at Burnley on last weekend – the opening match since he arrived at the Reds – because he is still lacking of match fitness.

The 25-year-old worked out by himself at previous side Newcastle, in a bid to push through his move to Anfield, and requires extra work to get up to speed after missing pre-season.

Isak's only game this season came for Sweden in an 18-minute show from the bench in a two-nil defeat by the Kosovo national team last week.

Slot said he is “100% sure” Isak will not play the full match against Atletico Madrid but indicated he will play a some minutes against the La Liga side.

“The striker is included of the group, so it's certainly a Champions League game to anticipate, but if supporters look forward to his involvement, that could mean that could occur on Wednesday as well,” Slot added.

“So the time he is ready, match fit, [he] can play 90, and then the following stage is playing multiple games in a week 90 minutes.

“And that is what he has to do; hitting the back of the net and doing outstanding things in offense is something he will definitely do. The main obstacle he has is to become so ready that he's first of all ready to do what he did last season.”
